Our Tufting Basics workshop is a 3.5 hour introduction workshop into the wonderful world of tufting.

The art of tufting provides an almost instant sense of satisfaction, much like the quick rush of joy from a favorite hobby. Feel the thrill of seeing your creations come to life rapidly and beautifully.

  • An introduction to a cut-pile electric tufting gun and a demonstration to teach you the art of tufting.

  • A choice of over 100 colours of yarn which can be selected on the day.

  • Time to tuft your masterpiece!

  • Trimming and shaving your rug for the finishing touches.

You’ll be guided by our expert tufters and leave with your very own handmade 40x40cm rug* at the end of your workshop!

  • Working with yarn, fabric, and textiles through activities like knitting, weaving, crocheting, and printing can offer children far more than just creative outlets; it can foster a deep sense of harmony, focus, and resilience. These crafts provide a tactile and sensory experience that engages multiple senses and promotes cognitive development from a young age.

Children immersed in textile crafts learn to focus their attention on repetitive yet intricate tasks, such as threading a needle or weaving a pattern. This focus not only sharpens their concentration but also teaches patience as they navigate through each step of the creative process. Whether it's threading beads onto a string, mastering a new crochet stitch, or experimenting with different printing techniques, every interaction with textiles encourages problem-solving and critical thinking.

Moreover, these activities cultivate a sense of accomplishment and pride in their creations. The journey from raw materials to finished product instils a profound understanding of the value of perseverance and resilience. Children learn that mistakes are part of learning and that setbacks can be opportunities to explore new ideas or techniques. Whether unravelling a knitting mistake or adjusting a print design, these moments teach resilience and the willingness to try again until they achieve their desired outcome. And more often than not mistakes do turn into something amazing.

Textile crafts also ignite creativity in children by encouraging them to explore colours, textures, and patterns. Each piece they create is a manifestation of their imagination and self-expression. Whether they choose bold colours for a knitted scarf, experiment with different weaving patterns, or create intricate designs through fabric printing, these experiences broaden their creative horizons and instil a sense of curiosity to explore further.

Ultimately, working with yarn, fabric, and textiles nurtures a child's holistic development – fostering creativity, enhancing focus, building resilience, and instilling a sense of achievement. These crafts provide a canvas for self-expression and exploration, where every stitch, weave, or print is a step towards something meaningful and uniquely their own. By engaging in textile arts, children not only create tangible objects but also cultivate essential life skills that will serve them well beyond their crafting endeavours.

  • Depends on what they are into. At the first session we will figure out the projects the kids want to make, and materials will be purchased ready for next time to make a start. We focus on longer more fulfilling projects rather than super glue and glitter quick crafts.

  • Thats ok! We understand kids will be travelling form various schools and will be trickling in and we will be eagerly waiting for them. The first 30 minutes is for settling in, snacking and getting the after school giggles out of their system before we knuckle down for crafts.

  • Rats. The fee covers all sessions for the full term for the dates listed above and are we are unable to issue a refund for non attendance. You can

    email

us and give us a heads up if you like, that would be nice.

  • Nope. We find kids 10+ have the fine motor skills and attention span needed for this After School Club. In due time they will grow up and be able to join us. You are welcome to book kids 6+ into our

    ‘Freestyle Weaving’

    workshops anytime though x

  • Good ones. We will check if your kid has any dietary needs and make adjustments, but usually fruit and vege sticks with hummus, crackers, popcorn and sometimes home made muffins.

  • Safe as houses. The studio is closed to the general public and MT Members during the classes. We have a pretty mega safe door too. Our facilitators hold current DBS certificates and are pretty good with the kids! MT is not a traditional school environment so the kids really let loose and are super involved. Its Terrific x
