Working with yarn, fabric, and textiles through activities like knitting, weaving, crocheting, and printing can offer children far more than just creative outlets; it can foster a deep sense of harmony, focus, and resilience. These crafts provide a tactile and sensory experience that engages multiple senses and promotes cognitive development from a young age.
Children immersed in textile crafts learn to focus their attention on repetitive yet intricate tasks, such as threading a needle or weaving a pattern. This focus not only sharpens their concentration but also teaches patience as they navigate through each step of the creative process. Whether it's threading beads onto a string, mastering a new crochet stitch, or experimenting with different printing techniques, every interaction with textiles encourages problem-solving and critical thinking.
Moreover, these activities cultivate a sense of accomplishment and pride in their creations. The journey from raw materials to finished product instils a profound understanding of the value of perseverance and resilience. Children learn that mistakes are part of learning and that setbacks can be opportunities to explore new ideas or techniques. Whether unravelling a knitting mistake or adjusting a print design, these moments teach resilience and the willingness to try again until they achieve their desired outcome. And more often than not mistakes do turn into something amazing.
Textile crafts also ignite creativity in children by encouraging them to explore colours, textures, and patterns. Each piece they create is a manifestation of their imagination and self-expression. Whether they choose bold colours for a knitted scarf, experiment with different weaving patterns, or create intricate designs through fabric printing, these experiences broaden their creative horizons and instil a sense of curiosity to explore further.
Ultimately, working with yarn, fabric, and textiles nurtures a child's holistic development – fostering creativity, enhancing focus, building resilience, and instilling a sense of achievement. These crafts provide a canvas for self-expression and exploration, where every stitch, weave, or print is a step towards something meaningful and uniquely their own. By engaging in textile arts, children not only create tangible objects but also cultivate essential life skills that will serve them well beyond their crafting endeavours.

At the Mid-Term Mending Camp, kids aged 10-13 will learn to personalize and sustainably mend their clothes using various textile techniques. Guided by experienced textile designers, they'll experiment with stitching, patching, and other creative methods to transform garments into unique, wearable art. The camp encourages creativity, innovation, and the joy of learning through hands-on exploration.

That's ok. We'll just try and pick up where we left it.
Just be aware that the Mid-Term Mending Camp is 5 days and we can't issue a refund if a child misses a class or two.
-
We don't offer these camps for children under 10 because it can be challenging to keep them engaged and focused for the longer sessions. Instead, we find that 1-2 hour classes are more suitable for younger kids, allowing them to enjoy creative activities in shorter, more manageable bursts.
For kids under 10 we have Creative Textile Academy for ages 6-9 on Mondays (morning school) and Textile Innovator Club for ages 6-9 on Mondays (after school). -
We will offer some healthy light snacks during our camp week.
We do have a nut free policy, but still please let us know if your child has any specific dietary needs so we can take that into account.
Kids will be offered fruit and veg sticks. Crackers and rice cakes. -
